How to file a HOUSING Charge of Discrimination

Step 1   Enter your name, complete address (including your county), and home and business telephone number on the Charge.

Step 2   Enter the name, complete address (including the county in which the housing provider is located), and telephone number of the business/person against whom you are filing the Charg

Step 3   Check the box(es) which best describes the party against whom you are filing this Charge (e.g., owner, salesperson, etc.)

Step 4   If the party against whom you are filing this Charge is acting on behalf of a company, check the box and write the name and address of the company in the spaces provided.

Step 5   Check the box (es) which best describes what the party against whom you are filing this Charge did to you.

Step 6   Place an “X” next to the discrimination class (e.g., race, sex, etc.) that you believe occurred to you.

Step 7   Place an “X” next to the type of property was involved, and mark the appropriate boxes regarding whether the owner lives at the property, and whether the property was being sold or rented. Input the address of the property.

Step 8   Enter the most recent date that the actions occurred to you.

IMPORTANT FACT - In Housing cases, the Commission only has jurisdiction over events that happened within the past 1 year

Step 9  

Write a brief description of what happened.   

In your description of the facts, be sure to include the following information:

  • State the name of the person(s) who made the discriminatory decision
  • If reasons were given to you for the decision, state each reason
  • State all facts that show illegal discrimination was the real reason for the action.  This can be comments, documents, statistics, people treated better than you, or any other facts.
  • If you are alleging disability discrimination, be sure to identify your condition, and explain how it limits your abilities at home, at work, or any other way it restricts you in your daily life.  Give examples.


Please mail the signed charge to your local OCRC office.

This is not an official charge until it has been received and processed by the OCRC office.
