| Ohio Law protects its citizens against discrimination in the following areas: |
- Employment
- Housing
- Places of Public Accommodation (restaurants, theaters, stores, etc.)
- Credit
- Higher Education (against persons with disabilities)
- Retaliation (retaliation involves some sort of revenge for reporting discrimination, for being involved in a previous charge of discrimination, for testifying in a discrimination case, or for opposing discrimination.

| To file a charge of discrimination you must believe the discriminatory harm was due to your membership in one of the following protected classes: |
- Race (e.g., African American, Caucasian, Asian, etc.)
- Color (e.g., black, white, light skinned, dark skinned, etc.)
- Religion (e.g., Jewish, Muslim, Christian, etc.)
- Sex (e.g., male, female, pregnancy, sexual harassment, sexual stereotyping, etc
- National Origin (e.g., you were born in China, Mexico, etc.)
- Ancestry (e.g., your ancestors were born in China, Mexico, etc.)

Disability (having a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits your ability to care for yourself, perform manual tasks, walk, see, speak, breathe, learn, or other major life activities; or having a record of a physical or mental impairment; or being regarded as having a physical or mental impairment).
Age (i.e., exact date of birth, must be at least 40 years old). Age is not a protected class for housing discrimination.
Familial Status (i.e., having a person under 18 years of age living with you). Familial Status is a protected class for housing discrimination only.
Important Fact:
In the areas of Employment, Public Accommodation, Credit and Higher Education-Disability, a person has 6 months from the date of harm to file a charge of discrimination.
In the area of Housing, a person has one year from the date of harm to file a charge of discrimination.
