BH. Jean Marshall-McEntire, is the Cincinnati Regional Director for the Ohio Civil Rights Commission. She has distinguished herself both in her profession and as a community leader. As Regional Director of the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, she leads and directs a staff that investigates approximately 500 discrimination cases in sixteen Ohio counties each year.
She is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology. Some of her previous positions include teacher of public and parochial schools, former sales manager and deputy director for the State of Ohio, account executive for a foreign company, vice-president of a worldwide company, and former Project Director for the Coalition of Neighborhoods. She has developed an anti-drug program for schools that teaches young people how to make wise choices.
She was recognized for her courage to overcome difficulty as a recipient of Profiles in Courage award sponsored by the 5/3 Bank, WCPO TV and the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati, January 2004, and in 2001 as A
Leading Woman in Ministry, by Leading Women, Inc., a group made up of two hundred women organizations. She is a recipient of the Keeping
the Dream Alive Award in 2001 Ohio Civil Rights Commission, and was honored for her leadership in business by Upscale
Magazine, Executive Suite, November 1994 and Jet Magazine, People Section, February 1994, Applause Magazine, IMAGE Maker's Award honoree, 1996. She received commendations by the Ohio House of Representatives in 1994 and 1995, and the City of Cincinnati in 1997. She was also listed in “Who’s Who Among African-Americans, 1996. Jean was honored for her business leadership and community service as one of the Women
of the Year, The Cincinnati Enquirer, 1994; and one of The Cincinnati
Herald, Women of Distinction, 1999. She served as Vice-President of the Cincinnati Art Consortium, Vice-Chair of the Children and Youth Field of Service, United Way, and a mentor for Cincinnati Youth Collaborative. She is presently a member of the WCPO TV Advisory Board, Friends of Scouting, Boys Scout of America, and a member of the Northside/College Hill Kiwanis Club. She is an ordained minister, a public speaker, and a published writer, recognized by the Cincinnati Public Library of Hamilton County as a new author in 1995.
Jean is a pioneer as the first African-American appointed to the Board of Directors, Interlott Technologies, Inc. and the first African-American Executive for the U.S. Division of British American Banknote, a Canadian Manufacturing Company.
She is the oldest of twelve children, born and raised in a small town in Louisiana, a place that according to Time
Magazine, 1995 and USA Today, 1995 is the poorest place in America. She is the mother of two and the grandmother of four.
